Geovane – The exact north alignment
Thies CLIMA First Class Windfahnen + Geovane
The Geovane is a solar compass specifically designed to work in conjunction with wind vanes and ultrasonic anemometers. Equipped with high-resolution optoelectronic sensors, composed of 2048 photo-sensing pixels, the Geovane uses the Sun combined with a GPS receiver to determine the geographical deviation from True North of the coupled wind direction sensor.
The True North orientation is determined by comparing the theoretical solar azimuth angle with the observed azimuth value, which is detected by the built-in optoelectronic sensors. To correct the direction measurements from wind vanes or other wind direction sensors, the correction value provided by the Geovane must be added to the raw wind vane data in subsequent data processing (Data-Logger). The Geovane offers three types of outputs: frequency, analog voltage, and digital over an RS-485 interface.
