A barometer is a measuring instrument for the determination of the static absolute air pressure. Being used for meteorological purposes, the station barometer indicates the aerostatic air pressure at local altitude. In order to compare the measuring value with other air pressure values several corrections, such as altitude correction, are necessary.
Only after the corrected calculations of the read value the air pressure value can be compared with other values.
